Hornets know to stay humble

- By Adrian Kajumba

EXPERIENCED heads in the dressing room will stop Watford getting ahead of themselves.

Their return to form and a victory at West Ham that lifted Javi Gracia’s men up to seventh made Europe one of the post-match buzzwords again.

And if there were any players who might have been forgiven for talking up the prospect it would be stalwarts such as captain Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart.

WEST HAM

Among the four players remaining at Watford from their promotion from the Championship in 2015, they know a European tour would be an exciting reward.

But both swatted away such talk, with fresh memories of the past two seasons, when they were well-placed around the halfway mark but ended much too close to the drop zone for comfort.

Cathcart said: “Since I’ve come to the club it’s been an uphill scale. We got promoted in the first year and we’ve managed to stabilise ourselves in the Premier League.

“Things are going really well. But we can’t rest on our laurels.”

Deeney added: “We have got to be a little bit arrogant in terms of knowing what we have got but also humble enough to know you have to work hard to win anything in this league.”

Robert Snodgrass says West Ham can still be pleased despite their four-match winning run coming to an end.

The Hammers kicked off level on points with Watford and Snodgrass said: “When you don’t win your first four games and you’re sitting level with Watford, who have done really well, it’s great.”
