Samaritan Thomas in ‘signal’ on hostel trip

- From Daniel Bates in New York

MEGHAN Markle’s father carried a little girl in his arms yesterday – in what was seen as a veiled message to his own daughter 5,000 miles away.

Thomas Markle, 74, visited a hostel for migrants on the Mexico-US border, where he delivered toys to refugee children.

During the 20-minute stay he also handed out games and sweets to families desperate to be allowed into America.

The visit, followed by a 10-minute trip to a makeshift camp where 100 tents have been pitched, was said to be a “spontaneous gesture of generosity”.

But observers believed it was intended to appeal to the humanitarian side of the 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex, who Thomas has accused of “ghosting” him during a feud that dates back to before her wedding to Prince Harry.

Thomas, a retired film industry lighting director, was spotted taking gifts from a Star Wars bag during the visit in Tijuana.

He was seen driving along with two female friends and their three young daughters, one of whom he hoisted up and carried.

On his stop at the tents migrant Luis Fernandez, 36, whose children are in America, told him: “I have no place to go. I am just waiting things out before I decide to make another attempt to go to the US.”

Afterwards Mr Markle went for lunch at a cafe and was photographed there too.

His daughter has not spoken to him since it emerged he had staged photos of himself and then lied to Prince Harry about them.

He claimed the ensuing stress gave him a heart attack which made him miss the Windsor wedding.
