Mother Christmas serves up a feast for lonely and elderly
A SELFLESS mother put hundreds of pounds of her own money into organising a Christmas dinner for isolated and lonely people.
More than 100 people nowhere else to go turned up.
They had turkey, chicken, fish, cauliflower soup, butternut squash and swede soup, salmon canapes or garlic and herb canapes – and, of course, Brussels sprouts. Twenty volunteers helped Mo Fayose cook and serve in Nottingham.
Mo, 44, first had the idea while studying to be a mental health nurse when a patient told her some people don’t like Christmas as they have no one to share it with.
She was going to hold the event at her home, but “it went viral” and she needed to find a bigger venue.
It cost more than £2,000, with 80 per cent of the funds provided by Mo herself and the rest coming from charitable donations.

Mo and her volunteers also delivered Christmas dinners to people in the community including those who are homeless.
Charity worker Mo, from Basford, Nottingham, who has a daughter of 19 and a son aged 15, said: “This is for people who are isolated, or can’t get out of the house, elderly people, people with children.
“The oldest person was 88. I use a mobile cooker in the garden of the building with a marquee. We decorate it as if for a wedding.
“There is quite a choice of food. Not everybody eats turkey. Everyone gets presents, something useful, not just chocolates.”
She added: “I now do this throughout the year for elderly people and those living independently.
“I am divorced – and I was lonely as well.” More than 100 lonely and elderly people tuck into Christmas dinner in Nottingham cooked and served by Mo Fayose, inset, with her band of 20 volunteers
