Shot that puts Idris in frame for Bond
ACTOR Idris Elba left fans shaken and stirred yesterday after posting a tongue-in-cheek selfie with Daniel Craig, reviving speculation he could still become 007.
The 46-year-old Luther actor bumped into Craig at this year’s Golden Globes in Beverly Hills and has been hotly-tipped to take over as 007 when Craig steps down.
Craig, 50, starring a fifth time in next year’s Bond 25 looked less than impressed with his neighbour in the seating arrangements.
Elba, in the Instagram caption, simply said: “Awks” (short for awkward). He tweeted the same picture, and added: “Er…”
Speculation has been rife he will be the first black Bond after a leaked email from Sony in 2014. The film distributor’s co-chairwoman, Amy Pascal, wrote: “Idris should be the next Bond.”
A black Bond has been on the cards with producer Barbara Broccoli rumoured to have said it will happen “eventually”. And Elba last year posted a cryptic shot of the top of his head with the caption: “My name’s Elba, Idris Elba.”
He appeared at the Globes with his fiancee, Sabrina Dhowre, 29, an American actress and model.
He was watching his 17-year-old daughter Isan, whose mother is ex-wife Hanne Norgaard, take to the stage as this year’s Golden Globe Ambassador.
In an Instagram video he called the Globes “unbelievably special”. “I get to watch my daughter on that stage. I want to shout out to her mum who has done an amazing job.”
Elba also hugged Bodyguard star Richard Madden, 32, who is also been touted as a future Bond. Madden clinched the prize of Best Actor in a Television Drama award for his role in the hit BBC show.
About the Bond talk he said: “It’s really flattering. Although people make things up – but it is lovely to be involved.”
