Too many McGuinnesses? Clarkson mixes up Paddy and ex-IRA leader
FORMER Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson was left red-faced last night after confusing the show’s new host Paddy McGuinness with ex-IRA chief Martin McGuinness.
Clarkson, who was dropped in 2015 after punching a producer, made the embarrassing blunder while promoting the new series of his Amazon show, The Grand Tour.
Asked if he had heard of Paddy, 45, who has signed up to front his old BBC Two motoring show, Clarkson, 58, told Radio Times: “No. The IRA guy? No idea.”
He later said: “It was an honest mistake. middle-aged man stood on a hillside telling us things are over’.
“I thought, that’s Attenborough. That’s probably why he’s gone to Netflix.
“They have completely tipped. Honestly, poor old Nick Robinson going for an interview for Question Time. What a waste of petrol that was. No chance he’s going to get it.
“Anyone who has got a scrotum, forget it. They just aren’t giving jobs to men at the moment. There is an argument that it’s been all-men for a long time, so what’s wrong with it being allwomen for some time?
“I get that. That’s fine. We just, as men, have to accept we’ve had it. Let’s just go down the bar.”
The BBC declined to comment. The third series of The Grand Tour goes out on Amazon Prime from January 18.
