Schumacher and Corinna ‘are still the perfect pair’
MICHAEL Schumacher and his wife Corinna are still the “perfect couple”, according to his manager.
The former world champion driver also has a “bunch of close and very good friends”, Sabina Kehm revealed.
The Formula One great suffered lifechanging head injuries in a skiing accident in December 2013 and has been battling to recover ever since.
He has not been seen publicly since the accident in the French Alps and details about his condition are scarce.
But speaking on the podcast Beyond The Grid, Ms Kehm said the German’s loved-ones had always helped him to escape the demands that came with being a racing driver and a global celebrity.
“They were such a perfect couple and they are still a perfect couple,” she said. “When he went home and the kids would come in, Formula One was far away. And he needed that privacy. His family has always been his charge in a way. Family-wise he was – and still is – really close with his family.
“Secondly, Michael managed to have friends from his childhood until now. That’s a nice thing as well, he’s always had them around... he has a bunch of close and very good friends.”
Earlier this month, Corinna issued a rare statement thanking fans ahead of her husband’s 50th birthday on January 3.
“You can be sure that he is in the very best of hands and that we are doing everything humanly possible to help him,” the 49-year-old said in a Facebook statement.
“Please understand if we are following Michael’s wishes and keeping such a sensitive subject as health, as it has always been, in privacy. At the same time we say thank you very much for your friendship,” she added.
Earlier in the statement, she thanked fans “from the bottom of our hearts” and announced the launch of the Official Michael Schumacher App.
“We are very happy to celebrate Michael’s 50th birthday tomorrow together with you,” she wrote.
