DO NOT HIJACK OUR BREXIT
May to defy Remainer MPs’ plot to delay leaving date
A CABINET minister yesterday told pro-Brussels MPs “don’t hijack Brexit”, warning there would be “astronomical” consequences if they did.
A gang of Remain-voting backbenchers is expected to try to seize control of the Commons agenda today in a bid to halt the Article 50 withdrawal procedure.
In what Downing Street has described as an
NIGEL Farage is backing a bid to set up a new political force called The Brexit Party, it emerged yesterday.
Mr Farage, 54, who left Ukip in December, is fronting the Leave Means Leave group demanding a clean break with Brussels.
He has said he is ready to return to frontline politics to head a new party if a snap general election is called or, as a result of a delay in the Article 50 departure process, Britons still get a vote for the European Parliament.
Mr Farage said last night: “We are putting the politicians on notice that if Brexit doesn’t happen on March 29 we are not prepared to do nothing.”
Former Ukip economics spokeswoman Catherine Blaiklock applied to register “The Brexit Party” with the Electoral Commission last week. She has sounded out Mr Farage for a role in the organisation.
Mr Farage said: “This was Catherine’s idea entirely but she has done this with my full knowledge and my full support.
“I’m fully prepared for Article 50 to be extended or revoked and if that happens, I will re-enter the fray.”
