Life for father obsessed with sex who knifed his ex to death

- By Paul Jeeves

AN OBSESSED love cheat was jailed for life with a minimum of 29 years yesterday for murdering his ex in a frenzied street attack.

Controlling Torbjorn Kettlewell stabbed Kelly Franklin 32 times after she dumped him to escape his fixations with sex and violence.

Kettlewell, 30, had taken two lovers behind Kelly’s back – and was convinced she was seeing other men after they split up. He stalked through the streets of their home town looking for her before unleashing an attack that caused “catastrophic” blood loss.

Kettlewell, who had changed his first name from Ian to Torbjorn after a video game warrior, was then helped to flee the scene by one of his lovers. attack motivated by what he considered to be revenge.

Wass sat in her car with the engine running as he stabbed Kelly, making no attempt to intervene, then drove him to woods to hide from police.

The court had heard Kettlewell could be “superficially charming” but showed signs of hyper-sexuality and had been prescribed medication to reduce his rampant libido.

He was also obsessed with guns, knives and the military and modelled himself after Torbjorn Lindholm, a Swedish warrior dwarf from the video game Overwatch.

But in court yesterday he held his head in his hands and cried as Kelly’s sister Stacy read an impact statement from the witness stand.

Addressing him directly she said: “Kelly had moved on from you Ian, she no longer wanted a creature like you in her life.

“She rid you like a nasty virus that had plagued her. Your own children hate you for what you have done.”

Stacy then turned to Wass, saying her actions had been “heartless”.

Judge Mr Justice Jacobs said the tragedy of the case was that it had been Kelly’s determination to break free of an abusive relationship that led to her “brutal murder”.

Kettlewell had denied murder but was found guilty. Wass was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter and assisting an offender. She was jailed for eight years.
