Daily Express backs award for public-spirited youngsters
A MAJOR new prize that aims to promote the selfless acts of Britain’s most inspiring children received the backing of the Daily Express yesterday.
The Just Enough Children’s Award will shine a light on the public-spirited deeds of youngsters up and down the country.
Educational group Just Enough wants teachers to nominate pupils aged four to 12 who have carried out an exceptional act of bravery or kindness. The winner receives £1,000 and a trophy, as well as national recognition for their model behaviour and an early boost to their career prospects.
Just Enough, which runs workshops to explain life-and-death issues such as knife crime, trafficking and gang culture to youngsters, chooses the winner in April. The award comes at a time when youngsters face unprecedented threats from “real world” phenomena such as drugs, county lines, hate crime and radicalisation.
The Daily Express has been crusading to highlight the same threats and demand answers from politicians and senior police.
Phil Knight, founder of Just Enough, said: “We see so many examples of children undertaking kind and generous acts – not for reward or recognition, but because they want to. We want to celebrate those who have been quietly making others’ lives better and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”
Entries must be submitted by February 15 and finalists will be chosen next month.
