QPR chief in move threat
TONY FERNANDES has threatened to move Queens Park Rangers out of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham after accusing the council of failing to back the club’s search for a new home.
Rangers have been looking to leave Loftus
Road for more than three years, and have plans to turn the Linford Christie Stadium at Wormwood Scrubs into a 30,000 all-seater.
But progress has been slow and the council accused QPR in November of “playing property developer”. Club owner Fernandes said: “The problem is we have a council that does not support us and does not appreciate what QPR does for the community. We may have to move out of the borough.
“I have been disappointed with the council, with the Greater London Authority as well.”
The council, though, hit back and said: “We have been clear we will never hand over people’s homes to any developer and cannot give land away for free.
“We love QPR but don’t see it as our business to help QPR’s owners engage in property speculation.”
TOTTENHAM have added James Maddison to their list of summer transfer targets. The 22-year-old Leicester player, right, has been identified as a potential replacement for star midfielder Christian Eriksen, who could leave for
Real Madrid.
Spurs are long-time admirers of attacking midfielder Maddison, dating back to his days at Coventry.
