MISSING LIBBY: THE VITAL CCTV CLUES

Police study video of man in car moments before she disappeared

- By Paul Jeeves

CHILLING CCTV footage may have caught the moment student Libby Squire disappeared.

A mystery man is seen smoking by a car before appearing to put something into his vehicle and drive away.

The dramatic film

coincides with the time 21-year-old Libby was last seen alive after a night out eight days ago.

Officers in Hull are understood to have obtained the footage at the start of the week showing activity around a compact sized car that they believed “crucial” to their investigation.

A man last night remained in custody for questioning.

The Daily Express has been aware of the footage but Humberside Police asked media outlets not to release details for fear of harming their investigation.

But last night they removed their objections.

Libby was sat near a bench at a junction in Haworth Street, Hull, close to her home, for about 30 minutes after a night out last Thursday. A motorist stops to offer her help at one point.

Even though a cobweb partially covers the camera, cars parked in the street are clearly visible.

It is understood the camera’s clock was a minute slow but at 12.03 two bright flashes of light are seen, indicating a car being unlocked before a man appears.

Three seconds later there are four more flashes as the car’s locks are apparently activated again. A few seconds after that a man walks into view and sits in the car facing outwards with his feet on the pavement.

His face is obscured but he appears to be rolling a cigarette.

Within a few minutes, as the man appears to smoke, another car drives past the spot.

At 12.06 the man locks the car and walks away. Then, at what would be 12.08, there are more flashes and it appears the man places something inside the car. The man then drives away.

Swooped

Det Supt Matt Hutchinson said: “There have been hundreds of hours of CCTV footage viewed as part of our investigation into the disappearance of Libby Squire.

“There are various lines of enquiry we have investigated and are following up in connection to CCTV footage.”

Police swooped to arrest married Polish father-of-two Pawel Relowicz, 24, on Wednesday night.

Det Supt Hutchinson added: “While we currently have a man in custody and proceedings are active, we are unable to provide any further comment in regards to the nature of any footage so not to prejudice any potential further proceedings.

“We continue to keep an open mind and would ask anyone who believes they have information that could assist with the investigation to please make contact with police.”

Detectives sealed off the home of bacon factory worker Rełowicz, took away his computers and towed away his car after they arrested him on Wednesday night on suspicion of abducting Libby.

Relowicz, a martial arts-loving gym enthusiast, moved to the UK aged 19 and met his future wife Jagoda, 24, working at the Karro Food Group’s headquarters in Malton, North Yorks.

It is believed the couple married last June and have two sons aged three months and two.

Officers fear Libby may have been abducted before being dumped in the fast-flowing River Hull which flows into the Humber Estuary.

Yesterday the Daily Express exclusively revealed how a nearby resident heard “dark and eerie” screams a few minutes after Libby was last seen alive in the early hours.

Libby’s parents Lisa, 48, and Russell, 53, have travelled to Hull from their home in High Wycombe, to anxiously await news of their daughter.

Mrs Squire took to Facebook on Thursday night and posted: “One week without her” alongside two crying emojis.
