My son is no killer, sobs mother of suspect

- By Paul Jeeves

THE mother of the Polish butcher arrested over the disappearance of Libby Squire yesterday sobbed that her son is “no killer”.

She claimed all he had done was to pick up a crying girl in his car and offer her a lift home on the night the student vanished.

Speaking at the family home in Warszewice, three hours north of Warsaw, Pawel Relowicz’s mother Marzena, 52, said: ‘My son is no killer. Paulina (Pawel’s sister) told me that he was driving home and saw a girl crying.

“Paulina told me he had given her a lift as she wanted to go home. He had put her address into his sat nav system.

“I know in my heart that Pawel did not do anything to this girl. My heart is breaking over this and I feel so sad for the girl’s parents and what they are going through. I can’t imagine their pain. If I could go to England I would and would kneel before them and pray that she is found.”

Mrs Relowicz added: “There is no way it could have been him. He bakes cakes, is a religious boy and is scared of blood and violence.

“He has never been in trouble with the police before and has never even got into a fight with anyone.”

She added: “I would give my life for her now to reappear safe and well and for this nightmare to come to an end.

“It just does not make sense because Pawel hates violence.”

The part-time vegetable picker has not spoken to her son directly since his arrest but has been getting updates from her distraught daughter-in-law Jagoda.

Mrs Relowicz said: “Pawel has never hurt a woman.

“I have spoken to Jagoda nearly every day throughout their entire five year relationship and she always tells me they are great together.

“When I found out he was arrested, it was like somebody had hit me with a hammer. It tore my heart apart.”

Relowicz’s sister Paulina Szymanska, 28, said from Poland: “I don’t believe my brother could do it. We were raised to be good people.”
