‘BROKEN BEYOND REPAIR’

Heartache for Meghan as dad reveals her private letter

- By Christopher Bucktin

THE Duchess of Sussex’s fractious relationship with her father is “broken beyond repair” with no hope of reconciliation, according to her family.

The feud between Meghan and her father, Thomas Markle, 74, is now “irretrievable” after he released a profoundly emotional private letter written to him by his daughter.

The bombshell letter tells him he broke her heart “into a million pieces” by not attending her wedding to Prince Harry last May.

Calling him “Daddy”, Meghan, 37, who is expecting her first child in April, told him to stop “victimising” her, after he gave a string of interviews.

She told him she would “always love him” but was then left devastated when he responded by asking for a photo-shoot with her.

Mr Markle made the letter public after Meghan let five of her friends attack him anonymously in a US magazine last week.

Meghan’s half-brother Thomas Markle Junior, 52, says his father’s decision to release the five-page letter has sunk all hopes of a reconciliation.

He said: “There is no trust between them any more. Their relationship is broken beyond repair.

“Between them, they have made some abysmal choices. Dad has spoken out in public when he should have done it in private. But then for

Meghan to sanction her friends to give details about their breakdown is, after all this time, very difficult to understand.

“Backing him into a corner only results in one thing – he lashes out. Meg was naive to think otherwise.”

Ingrid Seward, editor in chief of Majesty magazine, said: “I don’t think any daughter would imagine their father would allow a private letter to be published. He didn’t need to do it. I don’t think there is any way back.”

Meghan’s handwritten letter slams her father for giving press interviews and accuses him of fabricating stories and attacking Prince Harry.

The Duchess also accuses Mr Markle of not contacting her, shunning Harry’s offer of help and being ungrateful for money she gave him.

Mr Markle, a former award-winning lighting director, who lives in Rosarito, Mexico, said he kept the letter private

for six months because it was “just too painful”. But after reading the criticism by Meghan’s friends, he felt compelled to defend himself.

The Duchess also claims her father, who had a heart attack days before her wedding, did not tell her that he would not walk her down the aisle at Windsor Castle.

But Mr Markle said: “The doctors absolutely refused to let me fly to the wedding. As soon as I knew, I texted

Meg and Harry to let them know I couldn’t be there.”

He believes Harry helped Meghan write the letter, citing the expression “down the rabbit hole”. He said: “Americans don’t know what the hell it means. It’s apparently to do with Alice in Wonderland. You Brits use it.”

Ms Seward agreed, saying: “I feel the hand of Harry on this. He clearly is very angry. She wouldn’t do it without his collaboration.”
