We revealed Camilla Parker Bowles’ art-deco style diamond engagement ring following the annoucement from Clarence House that she and Prince Charles would marry in a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle on April 8.
After the wedding Camilla took the title HRH Duchess of Cornwall, but it was agreed she would not become Queen when Charles ascended the throne.

Russia freed American U-2 pilot Gary Powers after his plane was shot down over the country in 1960.
The former US Air Force captain was released in an exchange of spies in Berlin after America turned over Russian Colonel Rudolph Abel who had served five years for running a spy ring.

The IRA admitted to planting a bomb in London’s Docklands which killed two people, marking the end of a 17-month ceasefire.
A year-and-a-half later the Republicans agreed to another ceasefire ahead of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement negotiated by the new Labour Government under Tony Blair.
