1 LAZY SUNDAYS Family is very important to me and no matter where I’m rehearsing or performing, I always like to drive home on Saturday night so I can wake up in my own bed on a Sunday morning.

In September our daughter Gracie moved to London to start drama school, but she will often come home on a Sunday as it has always been a day that the three of us like to spend together.

To be honest we don’t do much, and that’s what I like about Sunday – it’s a real day of rest. We’ll often just go for a long, leisurely pub lunch or watch a movie. It’s just lovely to be able to relax.

2 CRISPS I absolutely love all food but I’m hopelessly obsessed with crisps.

Kenny and I recently went on holiday to Cape Verde and everything was wonderful except for one thing – I couldn’t find any savoury snacks in our hotel.

So as soon as we got to the airport to fly home, the first thing I did was to buy myself a massive bag of crisps.

My favourites, with my adult head on, are those posh, handcooked crisps, but my inner child will never stop loving a bag of Frazzles.

Of course I do enjoy “proper” food too, and I especially like Thai cuisine. But my favourite meal of all time is actually pretty simple and healthy: griddled fish served with steamed vegetables.

3 WORK I decided I wanted to be an actress when I was 10 and it’s a decision I’ve never regretted as I absolutely love what I do.

If I had to make a choice I probably prefer theatre to television but they are both wonderful in their different ways.

I thrive on the creativity and diversity and I do so many different things from stage and screen to voiceovers and even my own one-woman show.

Although an acting career can be pretty unpredictable, I just can’t imagine ever doing a nine-to-five office job. That kind of routine life would never work for me.

4 MY DOGS I think Kenny and I must be mad as we currently have five dogs, and two of them are puppies.

It can get a bit hectic but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

There are no words to describe the welcome I get every time I walk through the door.

I know I shouldn’t have a favourite but my most beloved pooch is a two-year-old English springer spaniel called

Dorothy who I am crazy about.

She is incredibly loving, always makes a beeline for me and literally squeals when I get home.

Dorothy is very funny and she has this almost human quality of knowing how to play people. It’s quite wonderful to watch her in action.

5 EXERCISE I love how exercise makes me feel. As a child, I was passionate about swimming and I used to compete regularly. It’s something I still enjoy today and, whenever I have a spare morning, I’ll take myself off to do a quick 50 lengths in my local pool.

I’m a good swimmer and pretty fast so for me it is the perfect exercise. But swimming also gives me a break from the modern world as you can’t reply to texts or check your emails while you’re in the water, can you?
