Leno shocked at goal stats

- Matthew By David Anderson

REPORTS SO Arsenal cannot even keep a clean sheet against one of the worst attacks in 100 years.

Huddersfield’s five goals after 13 matches at the John Smith’s Stadium this season had equalled the record for the fewest at home in the top flight since Arsenal in 1913.

That they were able to add to this paltry tally says everything about the Gunners’ defence. Unai Emery’s side have conceded 26 goals in their 13 away games this term. And Huddersfield could have scored long before Sead Kolasinac’s injury-time own-goal. “This season we don’t have a clean sheet away?” said Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno, taken aback by the players’ tunnel.

“So yes, we have conceded goals easily. Sometimes it happens at the end of games – Cardiff at the end, Newcastle and today.

“It always seems to happen when we are two goals in front, so maybe we are losing a

bit of concentration. We have to work on this because the defence is the most important thing in us getting back into the top four, because we have the strikers.”

Emery went with a back three of Nacho Monreal, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi but they were troubled by a new attacking style devised by Jan Siewert, and by Adama Diakhaby in particular.

Despite scoring in the first half through Alex Iwobi and Alexandre Lacazette, Arsenal could not control Huddersfield, who had more chances.

And Karlan Grant claims he was robbed on his home debut.

The new Terriers striker said: “It was my goal, 100 per cent. I don’t know who the defender was but he kicked it on to me and it went in off my knee.”
