Dazzling duchess meets Olivia is crowned drama
THE Duchess Of Cambridge came face to face with screen royalty as she congratulated The Favourite star Olivia Colman for her best actress Bafta gong.
Colman, 45, who plays Queen Anne in the 18th century comedy drama, looked equally delighted to meet Kate and husband Prince William on Sunday night.
Kate dazzled onlookers in a stunning white gown, teamed with her late mother-in-law Princess Diana’s pearl and silver drop earrings, for the British Academy Film Awards at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Broadchurch star Colman beat Glenn Close, Lady Gaga, Melissa McCarthy and Viola Davis to win the top actress prize for her turn as cantankerous Queen Anne.
The Favourite was also named Outstanding British Film, with Rachel Weisz taking the Best Supporting Actress prize, beating her co-star Emma Stone.
Colman’s next role will see her crowned again – but this time playing current monarch Queen Elizabeth II – in the third series of The Crown.
As the glittering ceremony came to a close, the stars headed out into the freezing night to one of the many afterparties. At the official post-Bafta party at Grosvenor House, US pop star Taylor Swift was a surprise guest, skipping the Grammy awards in Los Angeles to support her British actor boyfriend and star of The Favourite Joe Alwyn.
The Shake It Out singer, 29, chose to cover up her Stella McCartney gown in a warm grey coat as the mercury dipped.
Speaking of Mercury, stars at the party included Rami Malek, who won a Best Actor Bafta for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
