Farewell to Albert Finney one of our finest actors
IT was very sad to hear of the death of Albert Finney (“Angry young man who grew into a screen giant”, February 9). He shot to fame in the 1960s as one of the young, talented actors from working-class roots who set the screen alight in such classics as Saturday Night And Sunday Morning.
In spite of a successful career he was unaffected by fame and was his own man. He had principles and a social conscience and took roles which shone a light on injustice. He was also a fine Shakespearean actor and gave us the definitive portrayal of Hercule Poirot.
Albert Finney was one of a kind and he will always be remembered as one of the finest actors Britain has ever produced. Diane Silva, Bournemouth
