How could Hugh? Star lets girl carry huge bag
ACTOR Hugh Grant seemed to forget his gentlemanly manners at an airport – by letting a female companion carry an enormous heavy bag for him.
The 58-year-old was striding through the terminal juggling his coat and two pieces of luggage when an assistant grabbed the larger one off him.
But rather than swap them over, he let the woman take the strain – either demonstrating that chivalry is dead or perhaps giving a nod to gender equality.
The scene at New York’s JFK was in stark contrast to the mid-1990s, around the time Hugh enjoyed huge success with the release of Four Weddings And A Funeral.
On one occasion back then a much more courteous young star toted both hefty suitcases as he and then-girlfriend Liz Hurley left their flat in Fulham, west London, for a US trip.
Hugh went on in later years to win even more acclaim for a string of silver screen hits including Notting Hill and Love Actually.
In more recent times he was feted for his performance as Liberal MP Jeremy Thorpe in A Very English Scandal, for which he was nominated for a gong at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The three-part thriller was based on a real-life scandal of the 1970s, in which closeted Liberal leader Thorpe tried to silence ex-lover Norman Scott.
A follow-up is being made on the notorious 1960s divorce case of Margaret Campbell, Duchess Of Argyll.
