Beat The Energy Price Cap Rise This Spring Switch your energy provider and save up to £458*

‘Energy prices were hiked by as much as 9.3% in 2018’

-

Ofgem has announced that the energy price cap will rise as of 1 April. The industry regulator has said that the cap, which was only introduced on 1 January, will increase by £117 to £1,254 per year for the six-month “summer” price cap period.

That’s why it’s a great time to consider switching supplier, with energy customers saving as much as £458* on their bill. Energy prices were hiked by as much as 9.3% in 2018, which is another reason to look elsewhere for your supplier. The big six energy suppliers all raised prices last year, placing the blame on wholesale costs.

The Competition and Markets Authority has found that consumers have been overpaying the Big Six energy suppliers to the tune of £1.4 billion† a year. Ofgem has also stated that more than half of energy customers are paying £320 more than the cheapest tariff.

The price cap affects standard variable and default tariffs, which are the ones that customers are on when they don’t get a fixed rate from a supplier. The cap has gone up quickly, with wholesale costs once again being cited as the cause, but customers aren’t necessarily stuck with it.
