10 years, Grainger’s Laura has been tearing through the city with her American best friend and flatmate Tyler (Alia Shawkat) in a fug of tequila and class-A drugs.
While 32-year-old Laura is starting to think about her future, Tyler is determined to live every day as if it’s her last.A rift develops between the pair when Laura gets engaged to a classical pianist (Fra Fee) and Tyler tries to sabotage the relationship.
The performances are excellent and this indie film will appeal to an audience badly served by Hollywood. However, I’m not sure Unsworth should have adapted her novel herself.
A professional screenwriter might have realised that literary dialogue can sound stilted on film and may have been more ruthless with the meandering plot.
The pace sags so badly in the middle that I found myself wondering about the price of tequila and the salaries of Dublin coffee shop workers. one takes Johnson back to his ancestral home of Samoa.
Fans of beefy men in skirts will love seeing the former wrestler strip down to lead an ensemble of fellow Polynesian actors in a Siva Tau, or Samoan war dance.
Action nuts won’t be too disappointed but, if you’re looking for laughs, you might find this a bit of a grind.

Avril Lavigne,AshleyTisdale and Chinese singer G.E.M. get a few titters out of Prince Charming’s three fiancées Show White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, here re-imagined as three spoilt Californian girls.The songs, however, are a forgettable mix of soppy ballads and pop songs. If it’s raining, this will keep kids entertained for its brief running time, but won’t put them under a spell.
