Ings happy to be part of Hasenhuttl’s train gang

- Ian Whittell

SOUTHAMPTON striker Danny Ings says the Ralph Express is on track for success.

Saints have used a spoof video of manager Ralph Hasenhuttl driving a train to unveil their new signings.

And after seeing the side flirt with relegation for the past two seasons, Ings says the Austrian will not let Saints be derailed again.

Ings said: “From day one it was new rules. He’s very strict but we all wanted to move in the right direction.

“The lads have bought into that and you saw that in the performances towards the back end of last season. After a full pre-season under him it’s going to be exciting.”

Southampton-born Ings spent last season on loan with his hometown club before making a permanent £18million move this summer.

He takes on Burnley today aiming to prove his injury woes are behind him.

“I’ve looked after myself over the summer and I feel extremely confident within my body,” added Ings.

“For any player who suffers back-to-back knee injuries, it’s very difficult to come back from.”

Another who has returned home is Burnley’s Jay Rodriguez.

The former Turf Moor ball boy, who also spent five years at Saints, re-signed from West Brom for £10m this summer, seven years after leaving.

He admitted: “It really does feel like coming home. The fact I’ve lived away, you do miss family and friends but now I finish training and I’m back home.

“The club has changed – and in the right direction – and that’s something I’m happy, and lucky, to be a part of.”
