Wills takes Mickey out of Harry
IF the rumours are true and Wills and Harry aren’t on good terms, then his and Kate’s £73 Flybe flights from Norwich to Aberdeen won’t have helped heal the rift. Because the sight of them and their three kids happily strolling across the tarmac with all the other members of the public made Harry and Meghan look even more precious and spoiled than they already do.
It also makes a nonsense of the preposterous claim by actress, Jameela Jamil, who says Harry and Meghan absolutely have to travel by private plane because of possible assassination and kidnap attempts.
And it’s this kind of ludicrous comment by Meghan’s interfering celebrity friends that is damaging them even more than they are damaging themselves. Because if our future King and his entire family can fly commercial, then the 6th in line to the throne can too, which might well be the message Wills was sending his brother?
Elton John hasn’t helped either. He piped up that he’d paid for their private flight to Nice, their fourth in 11 days, because Diana was one of his closest friends and he felt a duty to protect Harry because of all the flak he’s getting. Tosh! Harry and Meghan deserve every bit of flak that’s coming their way because of their towering hypocrisy.
And Harry doesn’t need protecting. He’s a 34-year-old man with a wife and child, who’s fought in a war for God’s sake. He’s old enough to take responsibility for the fact that he and his wife preach to the rest of us about carbon emissions while flying around the world on private planes hugely contributing to the problem. Those short flights to Nice created 12 metric tons of C02 – as much
as a car emits in a whole year which is why their reputation as eco-warriors is now shot and they can no longer be taken seriously on the subject.
And shame on Elton for dragging Diana’s name into this row. Presumably he thought the mere mention of her would protect him and Harry from criticism. Well, it didn’t. Because what the rest of us see is yet another rich, celebrity trying to justify his excesses and those of his rich, royal friends. Elton stupidly said he’d offset the environmental damage of the flight by making a contribution to Carbon Emissions – a company that helps finance reforestation schemes.
Environmentalists call this Greenwashing and say it’s highly unethical because it doesn’t solve the problem.
What it does is salve the consciences of the rich who refuse to change their 5-star lifestyles and throw money at the problem, do a bit of public virtue signalling and feel they’ve done their bit.
AND how long before the Sussexes realise their celebrity mates paying for stuff – Clooney loaning his private jet, Elton paying for their flight and loaning his villa, Serena Williams paying for the baby shower – makes them look tacky, cheap and as if they can be bought?
And I couldn’t end this without the absurd claim from Jamil that the attacks on Meghan are because she’s black. What, so you can’t criticise any black or mixed race person for anything and if you do it’s racist? Oh PHLUEESE!!!
Meghan and Harry are under fire quite simply because they lecture us on how WE must save the planet but if it involves any inconvenience for THEM or any sacrificing any of life’s little luxuries, then the planet can go hang.
EMMA Thompson says Boris Johnson is a “pathological liar crossed with a fat pig”. You’d have thought such a talented scriptwriter and a woman who’s always keen to flaunt her political credentials might have come up with something a little less crass and juvenile. And I’m pretty sure that if Boris publicly slated a woman as a “fat pig”, Ms Thompson would be first at the barricades with the megaphone screaming sexism/ victimisation/ chauvinism.
