Ariana ‘overwhelmed’ on return to Manchester

- By Andy Russell

POP star Ariana Grande told fans she was “overwhelmed” after being welcomed back to Manchester for the first time since the 2017 terror attack.

Armed police patrolled outside the Pride event in Mayfield Depot on Sunday – two years after a suicide bomber killed 22 after her Manchester Arena concert.

She told the crowd: “I’m so happy to be with you. Sorry, I’m so nervous. I had so much more to say but I’m really very overwhelmed. So thank you.”

On an emotional night, she began her nine-song set with No Tears Left To Cry, the first song she released after the bombing. Mason Thomas, 20, from Manchester, who was at the Arena on the night of the attack, said the Pride show contained “so many tears, so much happiness”.

He said: “She’s so strong. I don’t think there was anyone who didn’t have tears in their eyes.”
