Long steps out of the shadows

RALPH Hasenhuttl is ready to give forgotten man Shane Long the chance tonight to stake a claim for a regular place at Southampton.

Republic of Ireland striker Long, above, is set to start against Fulham after being frozen out of the Saints’ opening three Premier League games.

Hasenhuttl said: “I have Che Adams and Danny Ings. Danny has scored and Che is the other central striker. At this moment, this is the future of the club.

“Shane is an older player, an experienced one, but I am sure we will need him.

The Brazilian, who joined from Club Brugge, scored the opener in Friday’s 2-0 win over Everton.

Jota said ahead of tonight’s clash at Crewe: “He will score a lot of goals. He believes in himself.
