Dummett warms to Newcastle recovery

- John Cross

PAUL DUMMETT knows that Newcastle proved a point at Tottenham.

The Toon defender laid into his teammates after the 3-1 defeat at Norwich 10 days ago, even questioning their attitude during the warm-up.

But Dummett was in a far better frame of mind yesterday, cheekily tweeting “warm-up was good” after Sunday’s 1-0 win at Tottenham

The defender said: “We had something to prove. It was not good enough last week.We knew we had to change it.

“We have to work together and we have done that. It’s a credit to everyone involved.

“Being a club like Newcastle, you always have that pressure but we have a good bunch of players and we will always work hard.

“We came up with a game plan and managed not to give them any chances.”

Fabian Schar put Newcastle’s revival in more colourful terms.

The Swiss defender said: “The whole team knew Norwich was a s*** game from all of us. I can understand if people were unhappy, but it’s still the start of the season.

“We have some new players, a new coach and everything maybe needs a bit of time.

“But against Spurs we showed again that we have quality and the team can compete against the big sides.”
