No sweat as Novak on pleasure cruise

-

REIGNING champion Novak Djokovic cruised through his US Open first-round match against Roberto Carballes Baena.

The Serb, below, seeking his 17th Slam success of his career, beat the Spaniard 6-4,

6-1, 6-4 in less than two hours.

Djokovic has not lost a first-round match in a Grand Slam since he was bundled out of the Australian Open in 2006. He has a 100 per cent success record in the opening two rounds at Flushing Meadows and barely broke sweat against Baena. The only surprise was that it took Djokovic until the end of the first set to claim his first break of serve, but his confidence never ebbed, reflecting the power of a player who has won four of the past five Slams. In the second set, he lost only one point on his serve. Djokovic, 32, will now face either American Sam Querrey or Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero.
