Winner Jo has movie star Tom on her team
and if I have the time, I would love to take in his show on Broadway.”
Konta won through to face another Russian, Margarita Gasparyan, in the second round tomorrow.
She dominated the first set against Kasatkina, a top-10 player last year, but a number of unforced errors in the second set allowed her rival back in.
Konta was frustrated by a series of line calls that were overruled by the umpire, and by a Russian fan in the crowd who she accused of unsporting behaviour. However, she held her nerve in the third and broke Kasatkina three times.
She added: “I started well in the first set, better than she did, but she was No10 in the world last year and a very good player.
“I had lost to her twice before so I knew coming into the match it would be a very tough battle.
“There was a differing of opinions with the umpire. In one game he made two calls differently and I thought they were the same situation, but you just get on with it.
“There was also a super enthusiastic spectator, but he was speaking in Russian so I don’t know what he was saying.
“I did a good job in playing today on its own merits, rather than thinking about my defeats here in the past two years.”
