Top of the class for long overdue schools boost
AT LAST some big thinking on the subject of education. The Prime Minister’s announcement that schools will receive an extra £14billion over the next three years could not be more welcome. This money is long overdue and until now our children’s education has been something of a lottery, depending on where the parents live and what resources are available.
Not so long ago, the British education system was the envy of the world and it is high time we made it so once again.
And with Brexit looming and the growing importance of Far Eastern economies, it is imperative that we give our children an outstanding education.
We operate in a global economy these days, no matter what our relationship with the EU and we have to be able to compete with companies and countries across the world.
And we cannot hope to do so if our children have not been properly prepared from their earliest years.
Boris Johnson, of course, had the best education that money can buy, but instead of moaning about a series of Old Etonian prime ministers, it is extremely refreshing to see that he is determined those less fortunate should receive a decent education too.
The future of this country should rest not only on the playing fields of Eton, but the playing fields of every school.
Our new PM is making an excellent start.
