We dug our big dahlia Gardening novices rent allotment for a year to grow all their wedding flowers

- By Sarah Lumley

ROOKIE gardeners Tyler and Aimee Morrison sowed the seeds of love by growing all their wedding flowers on a new allotment.

The pair, both 25, could not even keep a house plant alive when they started their project.

But after a year tending their new plot, they filled their farmhouse wedding venue with poppies, dahlias, cosmos, sweet peas and wildflowers.

They grew enough for bouquets and buttonholes, table centrepieces and a bloom-strewn arch.

The couple even produced own dried petal confetti.

Tyler, a carpenter, said: “We’ve always had the ambition of being quite self-sustaining and growing our own plants.

“Once we’d decided we’d grow flowers for the wedding, it was quite a steep learning curve.

“Up until then my only real experience of gardening was that I had killed a few house plants.”

He and graphic designer Aimee, from Salisbury, threw themselves into it, planting 20 types of flowers and tending the allotment at all hours.

Tyler said: “We were quite often down there watering the flowers at

7am. Sometimes we wouldn’t leave the allotment until 10pm.

“Most of our weekends were spent there. Minutes definitely turn to hours down there – but we enjoyed it.”

The couple did such a brilliant job they needed help using up all the blooms when they married earlier this month at a farmhouse in West Dean,West Sussex.

Tyler said: “Loads of our friends ended up pitching in to help us arrange them so it all went smoothly. It was really, really good.”

The newly-weds are now growing flowers for a friend’s wedding.

Tyler revealed: “The aim is eventually to turn this into a small business.

“We have invested a lot in the allotment in the last year and the flowers always grow back after you cut them.” their
