Ed’s country pile is now pitch perfect

- By David Pilditch

ED Sheeran has shown he really is in a different league to the rest of us – by building a football pitch at the bottom of his garden.

The pop superstar installed the fully marked five-a-side pitch at his 16-acre Suffolk home. It even comes complete with goalposts and corner flags.

Ed, who is a big fan of Ipswich Town, will be able to play without attracting unwanted attention as the pitch is set back from the main road and shielded by trees.

The 28-year-old was given permission to create it earlier this year after he agreed to switch off the lights illuminating the pitch between midnight and 7am.

And the singer – worth an estimated £160million – should now have plenty of time to improve his ball skills after completing his record-breaking world tour last month.

Ed spent a whopping 893 days on the road as part of his Divide tour before finishing up with four concerts on home turf in Ipswich.

The football pitch is the latest grand addition to Ed’s estate, which is near his home town of Framlingham. But not all of the ideas he has had to expand the property – dubbed “Sheeranville” – have hit the back of the net with planning officers.

Ed has faced a barrage of objections from locals after snapping up five properties in the area for a total of £37million.

As well as a 26ft treehouse, documents available to the public showed that he planned to build an underground music room, cinema and tunnel to link Wynneys Hall – the main house – to a nearby barn that he has converted into his own pub.

His £500,000 “wildlife pond” also drew complaints from locals who claimed it was being used as a swimming pool.

But council planners drew the line when Ed applied to build a 32ft chapel last year ahead of his wedding to childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn, 27.
