MUSIC MY SIX BEST ALBUMS

MAXI PRIEST

- GARRY BUSHELL

REGGAE star Maxi, 58, whose hits include That Girl and Close ToYou, has just released his new album It All Comes Back To Love, produced by Shaggy.

JOHN HOLT: 1,000 Volts Of Holt

(Trojan)

The music I grew up on.This would be played every weekend without fail.

The combination of John’s voice with the orchestra and that reggae vibe is timeless.

STEVIE WONDER: Hotter Than July

(Tamla)

Stevie has played such an amazing part in the music business.

This has everything from Master Blaster – inspired by meeting Bob Marley – to Happy Birthday, such an iconic song.

MARVIN GAYE: What’s Going On

(Tamla)

Wow! This was the album Marvin came back with after his depression.

It’s a concept album, a real sea change and his voice is wonderful. He could sing anything.

BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS: Rastaman Vibration

(Island)

I could have chosen any of Bob’s albums but I think this one from 1976 reflected the times, growing up in England and sometimes not feeling very appreciated.

LUTHER VANDROSS: The Night I Fell In Love

(Epic)

One of the greatest singers of all time. This album can create a mood and soothe any romantic difficulties. As a young man, it helped me understand what this thing love is.

A classic.

SISTER SLEDGE: We Are Family

(Rhino)

There are at least five or six classic songs on this album including the title track, Lost In Music, He’s The Greatest Dancer and Thinking Of You.

As a DJ you could always change the atmosphere with Sister Sledge.
