Two defeats on bounce and City next up but Everton boss refuses to panic

- By Chris McKenna

MARCO SILVA says Everton have not hit the panic button despite the Toffees’ sticky start to the season.

They have lost back-to-back games in the Premier League to Bournemouth and Sheffield United which has left them 14th in the table after six games.

After another summer of big spending at Goodison Park, it is a worrying start for Silva ahead of today’s visit of champions Manchester City.

But with his side three points off the bottom three and yet four off the top four, Silva said he was not worried.

He said: “Of course we are not happy. We know everything starts now. It is too early to look at the table and panic.

“If we played well and got three points in the last game, you are talking completely differently about the position in the table. Everything is too close. If you ask me if I’m really concerned or panicking, of course not. We know what we’re doing, we know what we should improve and results will come.”

The Everton is staying calm but players were hurting after the home defeat by Sheffield United last Saturday.

He said: “They show to me straight after the match that they are hurting when I had a chat with them. I spoke with them, something short, but I had a chat with them. I felt in that moment and they felt as well, we shared the frustration.”

Pep Guardiola’s City arrive looking to keep on the tails of Everton’s neighbours Liverpool at the top of the table.

Everton have yet to win a game in the Premier League under Silva when they have conceded the first goal. It is an issue they must overcome.

And Silva said: “We are working on that – obviously we must improve in that area. We must relax.”
