Andros keen to beat his City classic

- MIKE WALTERS

ANDROS Townsend says he needs to generate new material for his highlights reel – because he does not want to live off that wonder goal at Manchester City.

The winger says people who stop him in the street only want to talk about his stupendous hit in Palace’s shock 3-2 win at the Etihad last December.

Dropped after a sluggish start to the season, he came off the bench to lift the Eagles into the top half with a neat late finish.

City are next up at Selhurst Park after the international break – and at 28,Townsend concedes he is too young to wallow in past glory.

He said: “When I see people in the street now, the only thing they want to talk about is that goal at Man City.

“It’s nice to be known for it, but it’s gone now. It’s all about the next goal, the next game and not living off something that happened last season.

“I want to look forward, to the next big scalp against the next big team we play.

“For some reason or another, we always seem to raise our level against the top sides.”

Unlike churlish mercenaries, Townsend had no complaints about being left out by boss Roy Hodgson, saying: “I’ve not made a great start to the season on a personal level. But I’ve had to bide my time and make sure that when my chance came again, I was ready to grasp it.”

Hodgson said: “It’s never easy to leave out a player who has been such an integral part of the team, but you have to keep your standards up.”

Palace were given a helping hand towards their third win of the season by Norwich defender Ibrahim Amadou’s brainless lunge on James McArthur to concede a first-half penalty.

Skipper Luka Milivojevic duly bagged his 25th goal in 100 Palace outings – with 20 of those goals coming from the spot. CRYSTAL PALACE (4-2-3-1): Guaita 6; Ward 6, Kelly 7, Cahill 8, Van Aanholt 6; Milivojevic 7, Kouyate 6 (Townsend 70, 7); McArthur 6 (McCarthy 79), Zaha 7, Schlupp 7; Ayew 6 (Meyer 90). Goals: Milivojevic 21 pen, Townsend 90.

NORWICH (4-2-3-1): Fahrmann 5 (McGovern 22, 6); Aarons 6, Amadou 5, Godfrey 7, Lewis 6; Leitner 6, McLean 5, Buendia 7, Stiepermann 6 (Drmic 66, 5), Cantwell 6 (Roberts 81), Pukki 6.
