Ambush threat over no-deal Brexit planning
REMAINER MPs are ready to ambush Prime Minister Boris Johnson tomorrow in an emergency vote demanding the Government hand over its critical contingency plans for a no-deal Brexit.
They are demanding access to three Government reports: Operation Kingfisher, which details the readiness of businesses, Operation Snow Bunting, on police preparedness, and Operation Black Swan, reportedly, the Government’s disaster plans.
Operation Yellowhammer, its “base scenario” if there is no deal, was published last month after opposition and rebel MPs won a vote forcing it to be made public.
Attempts to hold the emergency parliamentary debate – known as an SO24 – today, were refused by Speaker John Bercow because so many Tories are in Manchester.
It is understood opposition parties will try again tomorrow.
The significance of releasing details of Operation Kingfisher was played down last night.
A senior Government source said: “I don’t think it will change the dial at all.We are prepared for no deal and whether we publish the details or not does not make any difference.”
All of the Brexit planning operations have avian codenames.
Operation Yellowhammer was revealed a year ago when City minister John Glen was photographed holding it.
Operation Snow Bunting is believed to have caused some unhappiness in Cabinet for diverting so many officers.
