‘No fault’ of doctor in deaths

- By Ashleigh Rainbird

CARE given by a senior cancer doctor did not contribute to the early deaths of six patients, an expert has said.

Dr Paul Miller is under scrutiny at the inquests of 10 former patients who died between 2006 and 2015.

They were treated by the consultant urologist at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.

Dr Simon Russell, a consultant oncologist at Cambridge University Hospitals, said of patient Alan Burgess, 72: “There are no aspects of the clinical care that contributed to the premature death.”

He came to the same conclusion on patients Lilian Cole, 82; Jose Cressy, 76; Keith Reynolds, 68; Leslie Owers, 75; and Ian Spurgeon, 85.

Inquests into Martin Turner, 86; Renfried Avery, 80; Frederick Le Vallois, 71; and Graham Stoten, 57, will also be heard.

Dr Miller, who lives in the US, is to attend the hearing at Crawley Coroner’s Court today. Hosts Judy and Richard in 1990 RICHARD Madeley has vowed he will continue to have on-air spats with wife Judy Finnigan when they return to host This Morning later this month.

The Daily Express columnists are lined up for a one-off on the show they launched together in 1988 and hosted for 13 years.

ITV bosses hope in future they will fill in for regular hosts Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield and Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford when needed. The couple, married 33 years, were as famous for their on-air chemistry as they were for Richard interrupting his wife, and Judy rolling her eyes.

And the return? “It will be absolutely us, as we are, as we were, definitely,” insisted Richard, 63.

His only worry is the arrival of Twitter – and that wife Judy has “always had a thinner skin than me”. He said: “When we come off air, she’s not going to look.”

Richard created his own social media storm recently pretending to be 27-yearold posh girl Judy in The Circle – the social media reality show where “anyone can be anyone”.

“It was psychologically testing,” he admits, but 71-year-old Judy “thought it was hilarious”.
