Act now on hate crime

SHOCKING revelations that at least 200,000 pensioners a year are the victims of domestic abuse is a timely reminder that while Brexit needs to be done there are pressing domestic issues that have to be dealt with too.

We should all be angered that the elderly – two out of three victims are women – are being targeted in this way. It is time for action and again this newspaper today calls on attacks on the elderly to be designated as a hate crime so that tougher sentences can be applied to those responsible.
