Age-old issue of pensioners not getting paid enough
AS an OAP I welcome any rise in pensions (“Bumper rise for pensions”, September 30).
This is described as a “bumper rise” and an “inflation-busting increase” and we look forward to receiving it in April 2020.
But I wonder if many people know that the EU has protected pensions and that the UK has the lowest old-age pension in the developed world?
So unless you are in line for a golden handshake on retirement, or you are one of the 800-plus peers in the House of Lords (with expenses, subsidised meals for yourself and acquaintances and a payment of over £300 per day) this welcome rise will hardly beat austerity.
