Arming our police is a positive step
IT is a sensible move by Home Secretary Priti Patel to suggest that we arm our police with Taser guns (“‘Criminals we are coming after you’”, October 1).
This would serve not only to protect officers from personal attacks but is a fairly safe method of subduing violent individuals which usually has the effect of not causing serious injury to the lawbreakers themselves.
Priti Patel is also wise to concentrate her speech at the Conservative Party conference on tackling drug crime, probably the most serious aspect of rising crime in Britain today.
Drugs are threatening to destroy the very fabric of our society and we need to come up with an effective remedy to deal with it. Howard Gardner,
