Moriarty makes his old man happy

- From Alex Bywater in Otsu

ROSS MORIARTY is not the first member of his family to beat Australia in a World Cup.

His father Paul and uncle Richard both featured for Wales when they edged Australia 22-21 in the third-place play-off at the first World Cup in 1987. Thirty-two years later, young Moriarty, below, helped his side down the mighty Wallabies and said: “It was a great game to be involved in. When you win tight games it’s even more special. The last time we won a World Cup game against Australia was 1987 and that was a special game for me because my dad and uncle were in the team. My parents came out for the game. Dad is very emotional when it comes to me playing rugby, especially for Wales.

“To be involved in this World Cup was a big one. My parents have gone home, but they’ll be back when we get to the final!”

Dan Biggar, who suffered a head injury against Australia, is expected to be fit to face Fiji.
