Alioski on target to put Leeds on top

- SIMON BIRD

EZGJAN ALIOSKI sent Leeds back to the top of the table and deniedWest Brom a club-record unbeaten start to the season.

The left-back’s first-half goal claimed only the second league victory at Elland Road this season as Marcelo Bielsa’s side were pushed all the way by impressive Albion.

This high-tempo tussle was a prime demonstration of the relentless intensity of the Championship and Leeds started in their usual flat-out, committed style. They banished some poor form of late to take the lead in the 38th minute. Alioski rifled a shot across goal which took a deflection off a defender and squeezed inside the far post.

Slaven Bilic’s Albion looked dangerous on the break after a frenetic opening which saw Stuart Dallas denied a handball penalty appeal when his shot hit Kyle Bartley’s hand.

The Baggies were crashing in tackles, earning three bookings in the first 25 minutes, Bartley’s cruncher on Patrick Bamford the pick and just outside the area.

The physical nature of the battle resulted in Leeds skipper Liam Cooper limping off.
