I’ll bleed for Wales cause says hero Moore

- JAMES NURSEY

WALES V CROATIA TOMORROW 7.45PM

KIEFFER MOORE says playing alongside Gareth Bale and the other Wales stars has given him a “wow” factor.

But the 6ft 5in former lifeguard and non-League striker says his unusual attributes can help bring the best out of Ryan Giggs’ team.

The forward has vowed to continue spilling blood for the cause if necessary, after a goalscoring competitive debut in Slovakia left him battered and bandaged. Wigan’s £3million summer signing received a shock call-up to the starting XI on Thursday, despite not scoring in nine Championship appearances this term.

It was a bold decision by Giggs, with Wales’ hopes of qualifying automatically for the finals in the balance.

But Moore justified his place with an all-action display and headed the opener as his team drew 1-1 to keep alive their chances in Group E before hosting World Cup runners-up and table-toppers Croatia tomorrow.

Moore says his physicality and presence up front can help Wales thrive and get the most out of stars likes Bale and Manchester United’s Daniel James.

“To be given my competitive debut and mark it with a goal is an amazing feeling,” said Moore. “You have a look around and see these players and think, ‘wow’. I will always give my all and bleed for the cause.

“The gaffer told me to hold the ball up, win everything and give the defence a hard time. I believe I did that.

“I’m a very unusual player for international football but it’s a massive plus. You don’t see many players who can do what I do. It’s always an advantage.”
