MUSIC MY SIX BEST ALBUMS DANIEL 0’DONNELL

- GARRY BUSHELL

DANIEL, 57, is a bestselling Irish country and folk singer who took part in the 2015 series of Strictly Come Dancing. His new album Halfway To Paradise is out today.

CLIFF RICHARD: Platinum Collection

(EMI) I’ve been a huge Cliff fan since I was young and all of his big songs are here – Move It from 1958,We Don’t Talk Anymore from when he was reinvented, and Miss You Nights which is my all-time favourite. My wife and I still see Cliff regularly.

ABBA: Gold

(Polar)

Abba for me were what The Beatles were to a lot of people and it’s incredible how popular they’ve become again. Even my granddaughter loves Mamma Mia. They have universal appeal.

LORETTA LYNN: All Time Greatest Hits

(UMC)

My favourite singer of all time and she wrote quite a lot of the songs she had hits with, such as Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ On Your Mind). She only stopped performing a couple of years ago when she was 85.

CHARLEY PRIDE: 50 Golden Years Of Pride

(Sony Music)

Charley has so many great songs. I got the chance to record Crystal Chandeliers with him and to sing with my other idols Cliff and Loretta. I feel very privileged.

JIM REEVES: The Very Best Of

(Sony Music)

I recorded a tribute album to Jim and covered some of these songs, like I Love You Because and Moonlight And Roses. What a voice! So velvety, so smooth. It’s tragic that he died so young – he was only 40.

ELVIS PRESLEY: Ultimate Gospel

(RCA/Sony Music)

Sometimes Elvis’s rock ’n’ roll songs didn’t show the quality of his voice. On these gospel numbers, like How Great Thou Art and Who Am I, you really hear his singing ability, and they’re so uplifting.
