One’s Bake Orf! Cake treat for birthday Prince

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

LAUGHING Prince Charles is surrounded by grinning children yesterday as he celebrates his birthday.

The heir was on official duty in Mumbai where the youngsters presented him with a chocolate cake.

The schoolchildren sang Happy Birthday to Charles as he cut into the birthday treat and offered one girl a piece of sponge from the end of his knife before licking his fingers.

Back at home there were birthday messages from his sons. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex published a new photo of their son Archie yesterday in a 71st birthday message to “Grandpa” Prince Charles portraying a happy Royal Family.

The previously unseen black and white image by Chris Allerton, from Archie’s christening, shows the baby in his royal baptism gown. His father Harry is seen holding Archie, gazing proudly at him, with Charles looking at his youngest grandchild.

In a message on their Instagram account, Harry and Meghan said: “Happy birthday to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales – Sir, Pa, Grandpa!” followed by a birthday cake emoji.

The couple and their son are expected to spend Christmas in the US.

William and Kate also sent a birthday message on their official social media accounts to Charles yesterday. They posted a picture of the heir with their youngest child, Prince Louis.

In a picture taken as part of a series to mark Charles’s 70th birthday last year, the Prince is seen grasping Louis’ hand as Kate holds his grandson. Their message read: “Wishing you a very happy birthday to The Prince of Wales.”

The Royal Family’s Twitter account posted “Wishing The Prince of Wales a very happy birthday!”.

It included a photo of a young

Duke of Edinburgh holding baby Charles in the air.

Charles travelled to Bangalore yesterday to join his wife Camilla on a private break at her favourite holistic healthcare centre before starting an official tour of New Zealand on Sunday.

MANY of us would hope to be happily retired when we celebrate our 71st birthday, but Prince Charles was yesterday on official duty in Mumbai. His unflagging energy was on display when he met schoolchildren.

But so was his sense of fun and humour that wins him the affection of people of different generations and cultures.

He is a national treasure and a strategic asset, and the best is yet to come.
