Owls face sale probe

- By David Anderson

BOLTON, who started this season on minus 12 points after going into administration in May, are steeling themselves for a second deduction.

A disciplinary panel at the EFL will deliver its sanction today after League One’s bottom club failed to fulfil fixtures against Brentford last season and Doncaster in August.

The Trotters have only just edged to within one win of a positive points tally under Keith Hill, who took over as boss in August. GIDEON BROOKS

SHEFFIELD Wednesday could be hit with a points deduction after being charged with breaking the EFL’s financial rules over the sale of Hillsborough.

Wednesday claim in their figures for 2017-18 that they made a profit of more than £38 million from selling their stadium to owner Dejphon Chansiri, right.

The deal meant they posted a pretax profit of £2.5m for that period up until the end of July 2018 rather than a loss of over £35m.

It is alleged Hillsborough was sold nearly a year later and the EFL feel they are in breach of their profitability and sustainability rules. Wednesday insist that the charges will be vigorously defended. The EFL say they are also looking into the club’s finances for 2018-19.

CARL Fletcher has been axed after just 29 days as Leyton Orient boss.

The Welshman, who signed a two-year contract only last month, won just one of his six matches in all competitions.

Orient are 16th in League Two and lost against non-League Maldon & Tiptree in the FA Cup first round on Sunday.

O’s chairman Nigel Travis said: “We felt this was in the best interests of all parties and we thank him for his hard work and wish him every success in the future.”
