Wherefore art thou... stars reveal inner Juliet

- By Neil Lancefield By News Reporter

POORER motorists are being hit by supermarkets which restrict savings on fuel to those who spend at least £40 in-store, the AA claimed yesterday.

A fifth of drivers in the lowest socio-economic group said they are “very unlikely” to spend that amount in a single trip to the shops. That compares to a tenth in the wealthiest group.

Vouchers from Sainsbury, Tesco and Morrisons this year offered 5p off a litre with a £40 in-store spend or 10p off with a £60 bill. Some 38 per cent of the 18,000 drivers questioned said they felt “manipulated” by savings tied to store spending.

Three in four believed the Government should set a maximum length of time for retailers to cut pump prices when wholesale costs drop.

AA fuel price spokesman Luke Bosdet claimed the use of vouchers to pass on tumbling wholesale costs excluded some groups of motorists.

He added: “This year has seen a pattern – when wholesale costs fall – of supermarket customers at three out of the big four being offered money off fuel if they spend in-store first.

“Those supermarkets have then waited for Asda to make the first move in a pump price skirmish before dropping prices on their forecourts.”

FILM stars Emma Watson and Claire Foy revealed their “inner Juliet” during a Romeo and Juliet-themed photoshoot for the new Pirelli calendar.

The images reiterate the Italian tyremaker’s step away from brazen pin-ups, with the 2020 version featuring nine famous women giving their own interpretation of the young girl in Shakespeare’s tragic tale of star-crossed lovers.

Actresses Claire, Emma, Kristen Stewart, Mia Goth, Yara Shahidi and Indya Moore, together with artist Stella Roversi and singers Rosalía and Chris Lee posed for fashion photographer Paolo Roversi.

Emma, 29, combined strength and innocence, while Claire and Kristen showed Juliet’s emotional, thoughtful and rebellious sides.

Roversi said of the project: “It is the quest for… fragility and strength, shyness and rebellion.

“Juliet is all of these.”
