Film: The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Film4, 9pm

The mismatched pair of Samuel L Jackson (left) and Ryan Reynolds star as a disgraced bodyguard who is hired to protect a hitman about to testify against the tyrannical president of Belarus at the International Criminal Court in exchange for the release of his wife from prison. Comedy action thriller which will be far better than you may be expecting it to be, co-starring Gary Oldman in superb form as Vladislav Dukhovich, the dictatorial President of Belarus.

Film: Christmas At Pemerbley Manor, Channel 5, 3pm

We are now into December so expect Christmas choices on these pages for the next three weeks without apology or justification – ‘Tis the season! There are thousands of festive movies out there but we have decided to pick out this gentle little American number to get the ball rolling in 2019. It stars Jessica Lowndes and Michael Rady (both above) and will leave you feeling full of seasonal cheer!

Documentary: Inside The Supermarket, BBC1, 8pm

If there is one person out there who has never been into their local supermarket after it has undergone a refurb and said: “Well, where has the *insert product here* moved to, it used to be here” then they must be the only one. As the automatic doors open on this series again tonight, Sainsbury’s embarks on an ambitious makeover of its store in Hedge End, Southampton, with manager Becky and her team (left) eager not to lose precious custom while the refurbishment takes place. At head office, two new food brands – a chorizo snack and a fresh fruit tea – are being trialled, while in retail, plans are under way for this year’s Christmas campaign.

Arts and crafts: Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas, C4, 5pm

Kirstie Allsopp brings a little more handmade magic to our screens tonight showing us once more that festive fun does not have to cost a fortune. The show, now in its 10th year, brings together the cream of UK crafters who vie for a handmade trophy. This week Kirstie challenges guests (above) to create a fun-filled advent countdown. Plus, there’s a pinata garland and a chocolatier who adores making Christmas treats.

Politics: Question Time, BBC1, 10.45pm

The big day is getting closer and closer. No, not the annual visit of Father Christmas – December 25 – but the General Election – December 12. A week from today the country will be awash with voting fever. As a result, tonight’s Question Time should be an interesting one as Fiona Bruce (right) presents the topical debate from Hull, inviting the studio audience to question a panel of politicians and other guests on subjects that have made the headlines this week.
