Dina’s dazzling at sports awards
SPRINTER Dina Asher-Smith was way out in a front in a neon dress at the Mirror’s Pride of Sport Awards last night. The 200m World Champion, 24, was joined by stars including Sir Chris Hoy, Dame Kelly Holmes and James Cracknell at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. Rebekah Vardy, 37, glowed in a red velvet dress as she arrived with husband Jamie. Rebekah is pregnant with her fifth child, her third with the Leicester striker. The awards, in partnership with TSB, celebrate input to sport from all walks of life.
HIGHLIGHTING his heroics for England in the 1986 World Cup – when he was awarded the prestigious Golden Boot as the tournament’s top goalscorer – Match Of The Day presenter Gary Lineker remains sore he missed out on
BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
“I’d won the Golden Boot for crying out loud!” complains Lineker, 59, himself due to host this year’s BBC ceremony on December 15. “Do you want to know who won it that year? Nigel Mansell. And do you know something else? He didn’t win the [Formula One] world title that year. He finished second. I mean, really!”
He jokily concludes: “I’m not bitter… but am bitter!”
IWITH the world not short on wealthy celebrities pontificating about the political issues of the day, Sir Anthony Hopkins offers a refreshing stance.
“People ask me questions about present situations... and I say, ‘I don’t know, I’m just an actor. I don’t have any opinions,’” the 81-year-old Oscar-winner explains.
“Actors are pretty stupid. My opinion is not worth anything... don’t engage me in it, because I’m not going to participate.”
