Killer gas clue to boat deaths
TWO men in their 60s may have died of carbon monoxide poisoning from a heater as they tried to keep warm on a boat.
Police say the deaths are being treated as “unexplained” but have ruled out suspicious circumstances.
Post-mortem tests were due to take place last night. A police officer yesterday stood guard alongside the boat which is moored on the River Ouse in the centre of York.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police attended a boat moored on the River Ouse after concerns were raised for two men who had been out of touch with their families. Sadly, officers found the bodies of two men on board.
“An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to their deaths which are being treated as unexplained at this time pending the results of a post-mortem.
“We are not yet in a position to identify the two men.”
