PICKS OF THE DAY

Retail: The Secret of Toys at Christmas, C4, 7pm

A look at toy-makers around the world, revealing how they work hard year-round to ensure their product makes it on to Christmas lists each December. Cameras visit Crayola in Pennsylvania, the charming home of Steiff Teddy bears in Germany and the fun-filled world of Top Trumps in the UK. Plus, there’s a tour of FAO Schwarz, New York’s biggest and most famous toy store, which is behind a proud new addition to Selfridges in London’s Oxford Street.

Reality: Gogglesprogs, C4, 8pm

We are big fans of Gogglebox, the show that gave birth to this adorable spin-off. But we’ve something to admit: this version might actually be even better. While the adult show is great, it sometimes lacks the naivety that makes this so funny. Tonight, the young critics give their opinions on the year’s TV highlights, from Flirty Dancing to Extinction Rebellion, as well as the much-loved Christmas movie Elf.

Comedy: Still Open All Hours, BBC1, 8.30pm

David Jason is one of our favourite actors and the good news is that, at 79, he shows no signs of giving up work. Tonight, his character Granville (left) tries to put the magic back into the festive season by practising a few conjuring tricks – but things do not always go according to plan and people keep disappearing. Eric and Cyril aim to persuade their wives to try Arkwrights’ special French custard, while Mrs Rossi invites Mr Newbold round for Christmas lunch. What will the Black Widow have to say when she finds out? Comedy, also starring Johnny Vegas, Kulvinder Ghir, Geoffrey Whitehead, Sue Holderness and Stephanie Cole.

Soap: Coronation Street, ITV, 7.30pm & 8.30pm

Nick and Sarah unveil the refurbished factory to the staff, keeping quiet about Derek’s change of heart, while Sean reveals to Fiz that Jade is living on the streets. Rita tells Gemma she has arranged to visit Mavis, despite the fact she has no plans to go anywhere. Later, Gary (above with Nick) lies to Maria that Derek ran into financial trouble, so he swooped in to save the factory and the workers’ jobs.

Film: Rogue One, ITV2, 8pm

In a galaxy far, far away, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones, right) – the maverick daughter of scientist Galen Erso – joins the Rebel Alliance. On the planet Scarif, she and the freedom fighters, including a blind warrior and a deadpan droid, attempt to steal plans for the Death Star, a battle station capable of destroying entire worlds, which was designed by her father on behalf of the Empire. However, the Rebels face tough competition from Imperial warlord Orson Krennic.
